Welcome to Lancaster Yarn Shop's Class & Workshop Blog!

Lancaster Yarn Shop offers a variety of classes and FREE workshops for fiber artists of all skill levels, from Absolute Beginner to Extremely Accomplished. The emphasis is on celebrating the tradition of knitting and handwork (and learning cool new stuff!) in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Classes and Free Workshops are held at the Yarn Shop in our beautiful upstairs studio at 3519 Old Philadelphia Pike in Intercourse, Lancaster County, PA. (HERE for directions). There is plenty of free parking, and we are just steps from the terrific restaurants and great shopping at Kitchen Kettle Village. Classes are taught by our experienced and knowledgeable instructors and classified by skill level.

Project:  One Skein Moebius Cowl
Date:  Tuesday, June 28
Time:  9:30 am - 11:30 am

A friendly introduction to moebius knitting!   Learn everything you need to make a simple, beautiful cowl.  This scarf is made using Cat Bordhi's extraordinary moebius cast-on, the knit & the purl stitch!  

Skill Level: Intermediate.
Skills Required: Basic knitting skills required.
Techniques Taught: Material selection,moebius cast on, moebius knitting technique.
Materials:  One skein Kettle Dyed Bulky Merino, 24" -32"US #11 circular needles. Pattern provided.

This workshop is suitable for Intermediate Knitters.

LYS Knitting Retreat September 16 - 18, 2011

 










Our Fall 2011 Knitting Retreat has been cancelled.  We hope to see you in Spring  2012 for another weekend of knitting fun!

Fall Knitting Retreat
A weekend of knitting, relaxing, and community 
Join LYS in a beautiful Lancaster County Amish farmhouse that offers guests all the comforts of an inn and the hospitality of a home. White Oak B&B, just a few country miles from LYS, is a 'wonderful good' setting for a friendly weekend of knitting and community. Picture a Great Room that is specifically designed for Craft Retreats--comfortable couches, tables and chairs, coffee and tea--it's perfect! 

The Fall Knitting Retreat is scheduled for September 16 - 18, and runs from Friday evening to mid-day Sunday.  Cost includes lodging, meals (except Saturday dinner on-your-own), and a Farmhouse Knitting Workshop (details to follow) on Saturday.  We'll make something beautiful together!

Project:  Garter Stitch Scarf
Date:  Saturday, May 7
Time:  12:30pm - 2:30pm

A friendly introduction to the absolute basics of knitting. Learn everything you need to make a simple, beautiful scarf.  This scarf is made using only the knit stitch!  

Skill Level: Absolute Beginner.
Skills Required: None!
Techniques Taught: Material selection, long-tail cast on, the knit stitch & how to bind off.
Materials:  Worsted weight wool yarn, US #8 needles.

This workshop is suitable for Absolute Beginner Knitters. Absolute Beginners are Future Knitters who have not yet put ‘yarn’ to ‘needle,’ have neither ‘knit’ nor ‘purled,’ and don’t know the difference between ‘casting on’ and ‘casting off.’   Also, perhaps, Former Knitters who may have forgotten it all (you know who you are!).  We’ll help you choose your materials and tools, and teach you to cast on, knit, purl, and cast off.
