Welcome to Lancaster Yarn Shop's Class & Workshop Blog!

Lancaster Yarn Shop offers a variety of classes and FREE workshops for fiber artists of all skill levels, from Absolute Beginner to Extremely Accomplished. The emphasis is on celebrating the tradition of knitting and handwork (and learning cool new stuff!) in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Classes and Free Workshops are held at the Yarn Shop in our beautiful upstairs studio at 3519 Old Philadelphia Pike in Intercourse, Lancaster County, PA. (HERE for directions). There is plenty of free parking, and we are just steps from the terrific restaurants and great shopping at Kitchen Kettle Village. Classes are taught by our experienced and knowledgeable instructors and classified by skill level.

We have Open Knit Night every week on Thursdays 5 - 8PM

LYS Class Policy Statement
Payment required at time of registration. Class fees are for instruction and do not include cost of yarn, patterns, or needles, unless specified in class description. Class fees are non-refundable unless LYS cancels the class. If class minimums are not met, LYS may cancel or reschedule classes. Unless arrangements are made with instructor, there is no refund or make-up class for missed classes. Please have your supplies and yarns at the start of your first class session. Material lists will be provided and will be available at LYS.

Supplies: 984 - 1,312 yards Eco Cloud or Cloud

This class explores the fundamentals of knitting a sweater - spiced up with a fancy cable.  We will meet four times for a total of twelve hours of instruction.  Knit in sections and seamed, we will have a special finishing workshop at our last meeting to put our sweaters together.  Special orders for the color you want will be available.  Contact the shop to register and to select your color.  Cloud and Eco-Cloud are heavy worsted, cabled yarns 70% Merino and 30% Baby Alpaca--they are gorgeous!

Deadline to sign up for this class is January 9, 2013 - we expect the class to fill up quickly.  Your spot is guaranteed when we receive payment.

Tuesday, February 5: Absolute Beginner's Knitting Workshop




Join us on Tuesday, February 5th for an Absolute Beginning Knitting Workshop!  A friendly introduction to the absolute basics of knitting. Learn everything you need to make a simple, beautiful scarf.  This scarf is made using only the knit stitch!

Project:  Garter Stitch Scarf
Date:  Tuesday, February 5, 2013
Time:  9:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Skill Level: Absolute Beginner.
Skills Required: None!
Techniques Taught: Material selection, long-tail cast on, the knit stitch & how to bind off.
Materials:  Worsted weight wool yarn, US #8 needles.

This workshop is suitable for Absolute Beginner Knitters. Absolute Beginners are Future Knitters who have not yet put ‘yarn’ to ‘needle,’ have neither ‘knit’ nor ‘purled,’ and don’t know the difference between ‘casting on’ and ‘casting off.’   Also, perhaps, Former Knitters who may have forgotten it all (you know who you are!).  We’ll help you choose your materials and tools, and teach you to cast on, knit, purl, and cast off.

Techniques Taught:  Circular knitting on dpns, shaping, Kitchener/grafting.

Wednesday, March 6: First Time Fair Isle

 
Project: Simple Fair Isle Cap

Time:  6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
A special EVENING offering of our First Time Fair Isle Workshop.  This class is a terrific introduction to color work!  Liven up your handwork and increase your knitting skills with stranded colorwork.  Fair Isle is one of the most common techniques used in knitting to create color patterns.  

Skill Level: Intermediate/Extreme *
Skills Required: Complete understanding of knitting, purling.
Pattern Requirements: 16" circular US #8 needles, US #8 DPNs & stitch markers.
Materials:  Two skeins  Lamb's Pride
