Welcome to Lancaster Yarn Shop's Class & Workshop Blog!

Lancaster Yarn Shop offers a variety of classes and FREE workshops for fiber artists of all skill levels, from Absolute Beginner to Extremely Accomplished. The emphasis is on celebrating the tradition of knitting and handwork (and learning cool new stuff!) in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Classes and Free Workshops are held at the Yarn Shop in our beautiful upstairs studio at 3519 Old Philadelphia Pike in Intercourse, Lancaster County, PA. (HERE for directions). There is plenty of free parking, and we are just steps from the terrific restaurants and great shopping at Kitchen Kettle Village. Classes are taught by our experienced and knowledgeable instructors and classified by skill level.

Tuesday, October 23: Baby Socks


Learn to make socks!
(Most of the knitting will be done on your own after the Workshop, but have no fear! We'll cover everything you need to know.)

Skill Level: First Time Sock Knitters.
Skills Required: Must understand basic knitting.
Techniques Taught: Material selection for socks, stretchy cast on, turning a heel, gussets and the kitchener stitch.  
Materials:  DK weight yarn, US #4 or 5 needles. Pattern provided.

First Time SOCKS!  A friendly introduction to the absolute basics of sock knitting. Learn everything you need to make a simple baby sized pair of socks.  We’ll help you choose your materials and tools, and teach you what you need to know!

Tuesday, November 6: Absolute Beginner Knitting Workshop



Join us on Tuesday, November 6th for an Absolute Beginning Knitting Workshop!  A friendly introduction to the absolute basics of knitting. Learn everything you need to make a simple, beautiful scarf.  This scarf is made using only the knit stitch!

Skill Level: Absolute Beginner.
Skills Required: None!
Techniques Taught: Material selection, long-tail cast on, the knit stitch & how to bind off.
Materials:  Worsted weight wool yarn, US #8 needles.

This workshop is suitable for Absolute Beginner Knitters. Absolute Beginners are Future Knitters who have not yet put ‘yarn’ to ‘needle,’ have neither ‘knit’ nor ‘purled,’ and don’t know the difference between ‘casting on’ and ‘casting off.’   Also, perhaps, Former Knitters who may have forgotten it all (you know who you are!).  We’ll help you choose your materials and tools, and teach you to cast on, knit, purl, and cast off.

Tuesday, November 13: COLOR AFFECTION Free Knitting Workshop

Join us Tuesday, November 13th for a Free Knitting Workshop.  We'll cast on and get started on the astonishingly popular Color Affection designed by Veera Välimäki. This is a short row shawl--that currently has over 6,000 projects on Ravelry.  We will discuss modifications, tricks and tips and how to block this shawl.
(Most of the knitting will be done on your own after the workshop.)
