Welcome to Lancaster Yarn Shop's Class & Workshop Blog!

Lancaster Yarn Shop offers a variety of classes and FREE workshops for fiber artists of all skill levels, from Absolute Beginner to Extremely Accomplished. The emphasis is on celebrating the tradition of knitting and handwork (and learning cool new stuff!) in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Classes and Free Workshops are held at the Yarn Shop in our beautiful upstairs studio at 3519 Old Philadelphia Pike in Intercourse, Lancaster County, PA. (HERE for directions). There is plenty of free parking, and we are just steps from the terrific restaurants and great shopping at Kitchen Kettle Village. Classes are taught by our experienced and knowledgeable instructors and classified by skill level.

Tuesday, May 17: Drop Stitch Scarf Workshop

Announcing our next FREE Knitting Workshop! Join us on Tuesday, May 17th for a Free Drop Stitch Scarf Knitting Workshop! 

Project:  Drop Stitch Scarf by Christine Vogel
Date:  Tuesday, May 17
Time:  9:30am - 11:30am
Knit a lacy, open scarf with 100 grams of fingering weight yarn!  Learn everything you need to make a simple, beautiful scarf.  This scarf is made using only the knit stitch and yarn overs.

Skill Level:  Beginner/Intermediate.
Skills Required: Basic knitting skills required.  Must know how to cast on & knit!
Techniques Taught: Material selection, long-tail cast on, the knit stitch, yarn overs & how to bind off.
Materials:  100 grams Fingering Weight Yarn, US #8 needles. Students must print their own copy of the pattern. It is available as a Free Download on Ravelry.

This workshop is suitable for Beginner/Intermediate/Experienced Knitters. You only need to know how to cast on & knit--we'll teach you the rest!

Entrelac is a knitting technique used to create a textured diamond pattern. The knitted fabric resembles basket-woven strips but is really interconnected squares.  The pattern emerges like magic; you won’t believe your eyes!  A self-striping yarn enhances this amazing stitch pattern.
 
Skill Level:  Intermediate/Extreme
Skills Required: Complete understanding of knitting, purling. 
Pattern Requirements:US #8 needles, & 300-500 yards worsted weight yarn  
Techniques Taught:  K2tog, P2tog, & pick up stitches.

Tuesday, April 26 'Amish Beanie' Workshop

Wonderful good! This cute little cap is knit in the round with a feather & fan border.  This workshop is suitable for Intermediate Knitters.  Intermediate Knitters are Current Knitters who know the basics:  long-tail cast-on, knit, purl, and bind off.  Experience working with double-pointed needles is a plus!

Tuesday, April 12, 2011: Child's Sock Workshop


Announcing another FREE Knitting Workshop! Join us on Tuesday, April 12 as we cast on a sock!  We'll use a pattern that is just right for your first pair of socks.

Project:  Easy Children's Light Weight Socks by Knitting Pure & Simple
Date:  Tuesday APril 12, 2011
Time:  9:30a - 11:30a

A child sized real sock! Knit from the cuff down, this sock will introduce new sock knitters to basic sock construction.  Special techniques include heel flap, gusset decreases, and toe shaping.  

Materials:  
150 - 275 yards fingering weight yarn, US #2 double point needles, stitch marker, tapestry needle.
small, medium, large (toddler-child's 5)

This workshop is suitable for Intermediate Knitters.  Intermediate Knitters are Current Knitters who know the basics:  long-tail cast-on, knit, purl, and bind off.  Experience working with double-pointed needles is a plus!  This is an ambitious workshop & will require a lot of knitting at home.  We will review the whole pattern & all techniques, with particular attention to turning the heel.
